La Pêche Looking to Adopt Best Practices
April 13, 2019

The Municipality of La Pêche has been selected as one of the first Québec municipalities to participate in a performance audit (also called a resource optimization assessment) for its permit and certificate management process. The audit will be performed by Commission municipale du Québec’s new audit division.

The Municipality of La Pêche is dedicated to the continuous improvement of its practices and services. When Commission municipale was tapped for the audits, the Municipality of La Pêche was quick to signal its interest in the work, saying it would be delighted to participate.

What is a performance audit, you ask?

  • An independent and objective evaluation of how municipal activities and assets are being managed, with a view to continuous improvement
  • An analysis that aims to assess if (and to what degree) resources are being used effectively, efficiently, in a fiscally responsible manner, and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and directives
  • An evaluation of specific administrative processes and their results
  • A way of fostering good municipal governance, for the benefit of municipal residents
  • A process carried out according to professional standards

Thus, an audit is neither an investigation nor an organizational diagnosis. It isn’t a response to a reprehensible action or situation.

Preliminary work will begin in the next few days and a report will be released at the end of the audit with recommendations on better practices.
