Publication of the ATV Traffic Commission report
November 6, 2018

PRESS RELEASE

After several weeks of deliberation comprised of a public assembly and an email campaign, the Commission responsible for studying the proposed by-law tabled its report at the November 5th Council Meeting.

It is the first time in the Municipality of La Pêche history that a process such as this has been undertaken. The council is elated with the level of citizen engagement which in turn allowed for an informed decision on an issue of importance to their citizens.

The council members present at the time of the vote unanimously rejected the regulation.

Backgroung

In September 2017, the previous Municipal Council adopted By-law 17-757 to allow ATVs to operate on certain municipal roads. However, after the November 2017 municipal elections, the newly elected council reviewed the report and noted procedural irregularities that led to the repeal of By-law 17-757.

The process to adopt a by-law resumed a few months later when Club Quad Pontiac members submitted a new request for permission to use certain municipal roads. The council wanted to hear from proponents of the proposed by-law as well as residents before deciding on the issue. This followed the consultation process that led to the publication of this commission report.
